Profile
Simon Richards is a general and colorectal surgeon working publicly at Christchurch Hospital and privately at Christchurch Colorectal. He is also a Clinical Senior Lecturer with the Department of Surgery, University of Otago.
He grew up in Christchurch and then moved to Dunedin where he completed his undergraduate medical training. He completed his final years of surgical training in Christchurch and became a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) in 2017.
After undertaking a Masters, he completed further subspecialty training in Colorectal Surgery in Perth at Fiona Stanley Hospital (2019) and in Melbourne at the Royal Melbourne and Women’s Hospitals (2020) and the Western Hospital (2021). He became a member of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ) in 2022 and returned to Christchurch as a Consultant Surgeon.
Simon is highly trained in all aspects of Colorectal and General Surgery and has specific interests in the laparoscopic (keyhole) management of colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and endometriosis.
